The Hydromatic C.01 is a true diver’s watch. Designed and made in Germany, it combines build quality, functionality and legibility into a serious tool watch.
It features a Swiss-made ETA 2824-2 / SW200-1 automatic movement, a unique domed box crystal and a unidirectional ceramic bezel.
A first for Rossling, the entire assembly line has been moved to Pforzheim, an important center of German watchmaking located in Baden-Württemberg, 45 km from Stuttgart.

The ETA 2824-2 / Sellita SW200-1 is a Swiss-made automatic movement that needs no introduction. Generally nicknamed “the workhorse” for its robustness and durability, it is a perfect fit for the Hydromatic C.01 applications. It has been manufactured since the early 80s and will be familiar to reputable watchmakers worldwide.
It is a high-beat (28,800 bph / 4 Hz) caliber with an ultra-smooth-sweeping second hand. The movement is equipped with 25 jewels (26 for the Sellita variant) and a bidirectional self-winding mechanism observable through the exhibition case back. With a quick set date, hacking seconds for precise time setting and a 38-42-hour power reserve, it is a solid proposition.
The 42mm stainless steel (316L) case features a combination of radial brushed (top surfaces) and linear brushed (side surfaces) finish. It will be available in a natural stainless steel color or with a black PVD coating. The angular outline of the lugs and crown guard gives the Hydromatic C.01 a robust, tool watch presence.
The bezel and signed crown both present a coin edge for precise operation. To handle a hydrostatic pressure of 20 bars (200 m) both the crown and case back are screwed down.
The case back is engraved and serialized to showcase the limited edition character of the Hydromatic C.01. The Swiss-made automatic caliber is visible through the window.
The bezel insert is made of ceramic, an extremely robust material that is scratch and chemical resistant. The ceramic insert is engraved and filled with Super-LumiNova C1 pigment for excellent low/no light visibility (must be charged beforehand with sun light or artificial light).
The 60-minute bezel is unidirectional (120 clicks) as per ISO/DIN specification for diving safety i.e. it cannot accidentally bump down dive time.
In addition to a dive timer, the bezel can also be used for a number of other functions (count down timer, compass and second time zone).
An important design element of the Hydromatic C.01, the uniquely-profiled double-domed box crystal is made of sapphire, a material extremely resistant to scratches.
The shape is a modern interpretation of the acrylic “bubble” crystals found on vintage diver’s watches, with updated functionality and durability. The sharp chamfer echoes the angular case. It also intentionally introduces visually interesting optical distortion when viewed from an obtuse angle.
The crystal features an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface for improved readability. It gives a subtle blueish tint to the dial under certain lighting.
Of the utmost importance for a proper diver’s watch, the Hydromatic C.01’s dial was designed to prioritize readability and functionality.
A high contrast white chapter ring (with individual minute markers) and minimal branding are pad printed onto the matte black dial.
The stick-shaped hour markers (doubled at 12:00) are hand-applied metallic units, giving the dial depth. All 5 visible surfaces are coated in Super-LumiNova C1 for maximum contrast and excellent low/no light visibility (must be charged beforehand with sun light or artificial light).
For visual balance, the small square date window has been relocated to the 6:00 position (from the 3:00 position standard for this caliber) through the use of a special date wheel. The wheel features a black background and white date numerals for a perfect blend with the rest of the dial and minimal visual distraction.
The hour, minute and second hands are clearly distinguished from each other through the use of a color code (hour – white, minute – high visibility red, second – black/red). All three hands make use of Super-LumiNova C1 for low/no light operation. The hour hand stops just short of the hour markers, the minute hand extends to the chapter ring and the smooth sweeping second hand extends past the chapter ring.
All Hydromatic C.01 watches will be shipped with a brushed stainless steel oyster style bracelet. The basic oyster architecture originated in the late 40s and has evolved ever since to improve function.
The Hydromatic’s bracelet is an extremely robust 3-link design with solid end-links for a perfect blend with the case and lugs and a more equal load distribution on the spring bars. The bracelet is equipped with an adjustable fold-over push-button deployant clasp with a signed safety fold-over buckle. It is resizable as well.
An optional 2-piece black rubber strap can be provided, with hardware matching the case finish. Both the bracelet and strap are fully waterproof.
The Hydromatic C.01 was designed and manufactured for full ISO 6425:2018 and DIN 8306 compliance.
ISO 6425:2018 is the latest revision of the divers’ watch standard established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) based in Geneva. It defines a set of technical requirements (and testing methods) for a watch to be considered an safe and functional diver’s watch. DIN 8306 is the equivalent standard for the Deutsches Institut Fur Normung (German institute for standards).
The main requirements are centered around (1) readability of the dial and bezel in sub-optimal conditions (with diving safety considerations), (2) water resistance (including salt water) and (3) overall robustness (shock, thermal, chemical resistance, pull test on bracelet, etc).
Compliance with these standards is a testament to the build quality and functional design of the Hydromatic C.01 and was achieved through sound engineering.
